Bus Fleet Diesel Mechanic

Position :                             Bus Fleet Diesel Mechanic  (Full time)

 

Wages/Benefits:             Shelby Public Schools will offer a competitive wage and benefit package for the most qualified applicant for this position.

 

Qualifications :                 Includes:

·         High School Diploma,   ASE Certification or State certification

·         Valid CDL / Valid Class B  P & S endorsements

·         Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment required

·         Ability to work independently, diagnose, repair, and service all equipment with no assistance

·         Basic skills in welding & cutting torch operation

·         Basic electrical/mechanical diagnostics & repair

·         Understanding of tire inflation systems, mounting & dismounting tires

·         Previous fleet experience; be familiar with diesel and gasoline systems

·         Must pass D.O.T. pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check

·         Possess the minimum hand tools for a Diesel Technician

·         Ability to use good judgment and decision-making skills

·         Should be personable, a problem solver, reliable, ethical, intelligent, and able to work and adapt to customers, suppliers, department employees, and co-workers

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

·         Responsible for maintaining a safe fleet for transporting students

·         Diagnose malfunctions and perform vehicle repairs (e.g. steering, electrical, cooling, braking, suspensions, transmissions, engines, etc.), as well as perform preventative maintenance in accordance with regulations and standards

·         Arrange for and obtain appropriate inspections and approvals of repair work

·         Maintain a safe, clean, productive and efficient work area
